District Governor, David G. Orr, was born in 1956 to Gene and Wilma Orr in Chanute, Kansas. He grew up in Chanute, graduating from Chanute High School in 1974. He attended Neosho County Community College.
David’s ancestors’ came to Chanute, Kansas in the first 27 prairie schooners coming to Southeast Kansas. Today he and wife, Cheryl, live east of Chanute on the farm that was homesteaded in 1867. He has two children, Taverli, 25 and Deshon, 22. He was co-owner in the family business; Orr’s Color Center, in downtown Chanute for many years and developed the automotive paint division of the company.
Through the years David has been certified in a variety of product lines at several universities including certification in framing and preservation of Museum Art, training in Fluid Power, Hydraulic High Pressure Pumps, Robotic Paint Systems, Towing Applications, Computer Software courses, Ford Motor Company and GM Service Tech Training.
He has experience in management, marketing, sales, design engineering, industrial, maintenance, computers, automotive paint, music and human relations. David has taught several courses in Dale Carnegie effective speaking, Marketing, Paint and Robotics, Auto body classes and Engineering of Product and Plant Design.
He began his management career at KKOY Radio in 1976 and later formed Magnum Industries, Inc. manufacturing pressure cleaning equipment. He also has served as an officer in management for TOLLE Manufacturing, Inc. a manufacturer of towing accessories and Paul H. Wessel Company which was President and a consulting engineer in the building of production lines of high pressure cleaning and painting for such companies as Caterpillar, John Deere, JI Case, and AMANA Refrigeration.
21 years ago he started Magna Tech, Inc. and Big Creek Investment Corporation in Victor, Iowa, and in 1996 he moved the company back to his hometown of Chanute. Today he serves as President / CEO of Magna Tech, Inc. who manufactures towing accessories and fiber deployment trucks for AT&T. He has invented multiple products for the paint and automotive industries as well as patented six products.
He serves on NCCC Endowment board; Vice Chair for the Kansas Local Work Force Investment Board for Area V, in his youth was a past Officer and member of the Chanute Jaycees and Chanute Elks Club. David served as a Board member of the Victor Baptist Church in Victor Iowa later coming back to Chanute served has a Lay Person at Big Creek Methodist Church.
David joined the Chanute Lions Club in 1996 and has served as Vice President, Secretary, President, Zone Chairman, Candy Day Co-Chairman, Chairman of “The Lions Burger Stand and “The Lions Rock Hall of Fame” hosting the Governor and the 1st Dude of the State of Kansas. He replaced District Governor Bill Brown in his time of illness as Acting District Governor for 2005-2006 finishing his term and now serving as District Governor for 2006 - 2007.
